Singer Mario is off the hook for allegedly assaulting his own mother last month -- after she admitted ... on the witness stand ... that she was hopped up on drugs when she made the allegations. Mario was arrested for assault on October 1 after his mother Shawntia Hardaway -- a former heroin addict -- told cops he pushed her at their home in Baltimore. Hardaway also claimed Mario shoved her into a wall a week before. But yesterday in Baltimore, Shawntia completely changed her story -- saying she was under the influence of drugs and alcohol when she called the cops ... and that the assault claims were BS. According to the Baltimore state's attorney's office, the assault charge against Mario was officially dropped. Mario's attorney said the singer "remains committed to helping his mother battle her addiction."

Such a sad situation. Hard to see someone you love going though this.

The arrest of R&B singer Mario for allegedly assaulting his mother was "an unfortunate incident between a loving son and a mother who continues to struggle with a devastating addiction," his lawyer said Saturday. Mario, 24, was charged with second degree assault after police were called to a Baltimore, Maryland high-rise apartment complex with a report of "a mental case breaking up property inside" an apartment early Friday. Shawntia Hardaway, who was waiting in theground-floor lobby, told authorities that her 24-year-old son was in the apartment "throwing and damaging property," the police report said. "Anyone who has waged the battle to save loved ones from the forces of drugs knows the irrational behavior that almost always accompanies their actions," said Hassan Murphy, Mario's Baltimore attorney, on Saturday. "Despite the allegations, Mario remains committed to supporting his mother." On Friday, Hardaway said her son "started yelling at her and he used his hands and forearms and pushed her in the chest and shoulder area causing minor pain and discomfort," according to police.

It goes without saying, you should NEVER put your hands on anyone (let alone your own MOTHER), but I'm sure it has been a devastating/bumpy ride watching his mother go through her addictions!

He must exercise patience because it's going to be a long battle.

Mario -- the platinum-selling R&B singer -- was arrested in Baltimore this morning for allegedly assaulting his own mother in an apartment they share. According to police, Mario's mother Shawntia Hardaway -- a former heroin addict -- told cops the former "Dancing with the Stars" contestant had been "throwing and damaging property" ... and pushed her around with his hands and forearms. Cops say they found several broken items inside the apartment -- including a broken China cabinet, a busted mirror and a hole in the closet door. Mario's mother also told police the 24-year-old singer had attacked her earlier in the week -- in which he pushed her "eight feet into a living room wall, where Ms. Hardaway hit her head on the wall." Mario -- real name Mario Dewar Bennett -- was eventually arrested this morning for 2nd degree assault. He was released on $50,000 bond.

Keep in mind, momma is recovering! That is all I'm gonna say about that.....
