Over $7 MILLION Settlement In Sean Bell Murder!

The 2006 shooting of Sean Bell, the unarmed black man shot in his car and killed by police officers early on the morning of his wedding day, is one of the most controversial in recent New York City history. On Tuesday, the city agreed to pay more than $7 million to his two children and two of his friends; the friends were in the vehicle and were wounded when the police opened fire. The federal lawsuit set off a debate over the use of deadly force and prompted the city to change some of its policing procedures, including alcohol testing for officers in any shooting in which someone is injured, as well as improved firearms training. The settlement ranks among the biggest in recent years involving the city’s police. Mr. Bell’s children, whom he had with his fiancée, Nicole Paultre Bell, will receive $3.25 million. Mr. Bell’s two friends Joseph Guzman and Trent Benefield, who were injured in the shooting, will receive $3 million and $900,000, respectively.

This story still makes me extremely nauseous. We all know that those children and his "wife" can never get Mr. Bell back, but hopefully the money will allow them to live a fruitful life in his absence.

Rihanna Speaks On Controversial Song With Eminem

Eminem's new hit song with Rihanna, Love The Way You Lie,  has received a lot of backlash from critics that feel the message of the song is really intense and promotes domestic violence. But many others (as myself) have taken a strong liking to the song. I mean, it's pretty much all you hear on the radio now and has stayed high on the singles chart.

Have you ever listed to the lyrics? Em raps: “I laid hands on her/I’ll never stoop so low again/I guess I don’t know my own strength” and Rihanna singing, “Just gonna stand there and watch me burn, but that’s alright because I like the way it hurts.”

Now, Rihanna is speaking about why she felt is was necessary for her to record the tune:

“I knew if he sent me a record there must be something to it,” Rihanna explained of how she was brought on board. “It couldn’t just be, ‘Oh, Duh! She was in that relationship so we have to get her.’ “The lyrics were so deep, so beautiful and intense. It’s something that I understood, something I connected with. It’s something that, you know, we’ve both experienced, you know, on different sides, different ends of the table. He pretty much just broke down the cycle of domestic violence and it’s something that people don’t have a lot of insight on.”

I really appreciate the song, and felt it was done in a way that makes people think. Remember, these two are artists and this is their for  of expression.

Aretha Franklin And Condoleeza Rice Duet In Philly!

And unlikely pairing, eh? Not really......

The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin and former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice took to the stage Tuesday evening at Philadelphia's Mann Music Center for a rare duet, aimed to raise money for urban children and awareness for music and the arts.

KUDOS!

People forget (lawwd knows I did) Rice is a classically trained pianist and of course Franklin is know for her stellar voice and musical longevity. So it was only natural for the two to link up for a wonderful cause.
