Denzel Washington's New Play "Fences" Makes MAYJAH Money Opening Week!

Come on now...it's Denzel Washington we're talking about, people!
The Broadway revival of “Fences” had a blockbuster first week of preview performances at the box office last week, grossing $703,724 for a six-show week — technically 105 percent of the potential maximum gross, a sign that some theatergoers are paying the $325 premium ticket price for the August Wilson play starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis. The average paid admission for “Fences,” $111.03, was the second highest of any Broadway show last week, a relatively rare status for a play.
I've heard nothing but GREAT things about this play, but that notion isn't far fetched when you have a two-time Oscar winner on the bill! “Fences” won the Tony Award for best play and the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1987, and has not been mounted on Broadway since the original production, starring James Earl Jones and Mary Alice, closed in 1988.

I'm just happy that Denzel, with all his fame and notoriety, decided to take on the roll bringing in major dollars for the play!
