I have been a fan of Vogue magazine's former editor-at-large (he has a new title now as "contributing editor") Andre Leon Talley (ALT) for quite sometime now. His story is quite inspiring. Having grown up as an only child from a modest family in Durham, North Carolina, Talley assisted Diana Vreelend while she organized the Met's Costume Institute ("I treated her office like walking into the Vatican") to his days working in Andy Warhol's Factory as Interview's receptionist ("I answered phones and picked up Mr. Warhol's lunch). Who said you can't be what you want without determination and a great work ethic???
More under the cut......
ALT was on hand last night at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) to talk as part of The Museum at FIT's Fashion Culture series. There, he spoke to a crowd of about 300 fans who adore him just as much (or even more) as I do! He announced plans to return to America's Next Top Model, calling Tyra Banks, "a fabulous business woman."
THANK GAWWWWWD! Tyra, this is theeee BEST thing you could've done for your franchise! Clap for YOURSELF!
Many who watch ALT on Top Model often wonder where the word 'drekitude' comes from (which he uses often and I find myself stealing....sorry!), and he explains while watching Rachel Maddow repeat 'quackitude' on her MSNBC show and thinking of the German word for garbage, drek. LOVE.....
As if ALT's schedule couldn't get anymore jam packed, he would like to hit the Broadway (or off-Broaway) stage and says he has been working for years on a one-man show.
Simply put.....I *bow down*
DIVINE, yes???
